Psychodrome is a new theatre company that was formed to bring Lovers From Hell to the stage. Now that the production is transferring to Oval House's main space, Psychodrome is teaming up with the London New Play Festival.
The London New Play Festival was formed in 1989 by Phil Setren, who is its artistic director. It has launched the careers of some of Londons leading playwrights, including Mark Ravenhill, Joe Penhall, Biyi Bandele and many others.
Psychodrome is makeshift Greek for arena of the mind. It also references David Cronenbergs freaky 1982 masterpiece Videodrome, in which James Woods whipped a TV set whose screen showed Debbie Harry handcuffed to a wall, and in which Harry confessed, I live in a highly excited state of over-stimulation, before applying a lighted cigarette to her breast.
The stage is a sacred space of both nakedness and power, where all voices may be heard and all ideas made flesh; from sensual daydreams to treasure forever to erotic nightmares beyond any measure.
